Si la muerte
es bondadosa
Quizás si la
muerte es bondadosa y existe el regreso,
volvamos a la
tierra en alguna noche fragante,
y sigamos
estos senderos hasta el mar
y al inclinarnos
respiremos la misma madreselva blanca y baja.
Bajaremos por
la noche a estas playas resonantes
y al largo y
suave trueno del mar;
aquí por una
sola hora bajo la vasta luz de las estrellas
seremos
felices, pues los muertos son libres.
If Death is kind
Perhaps if Death is kind, and there can be returning,
We will come back to earth some fragrant night,
And take these lanes to find the sea, and
bending
Breathe the same honeysuckle, low and white.
We will come down at night to these resounding
beaches
And the long gentle thunder of the sea,
Here for a single hour in the wide starlight
We shall be happy, for the dead are free.
